Maury Leyland-Penno

Co-founder, Leaft Foods

Maury is the Co-Founder of Leaft Foods, where she brings deep experience in strategy, high-performance teams, and systems thinking to guide the company’s long-term direction.

Maury’s background spans engineering, corporate leadership, governance, and strategy. She began her career in the high-performance environment of Team New Zealand’s 1995 America’s Cup campaign, before moving into strategy consulting with The Boston Consulting Group. She later held senior executive roles at Fonterra, leading major strategy and transformation initiatives in complex global settings, and has been an active contributor across New Zealand’s governance landscape.

Alongside her work at Leaft, Maury and her husband John own a large sheep and beef farming operation in Canterbury, where they are developing pathways for more diverse and environmentally resilient land use through the introduction of horticulture.

Maury holds a BE (Hons) in Engineering Science, is a Fellow of Engineering New Zealand, and a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors.
