Kate McBride

2022 Australian Finalist

When Australian Kate was named as a finalist, she was working as a station hand for part of the year and working part time at The Australia Institute, focusing on rural and water issues.

Over years, Kate has become a familiar face in the fight for a healthy Darling- Barka River and Menindee Lakes and had been interviewed for a number of programs, most notably Australian Story ‘Cry me a river’ and ABC’s Q&A three times.

In February 2021 Kate began working at The Australia Institute as an Anne Kantor Fellow. In late 2022 she moved to Canberra to become their Parliamentary Liaison Officer but still spends a week a month out in Western NSW to recharge and maintain her connection to the bush.
